Frequently Asked Questions About CoolSculpting

What is CoolSculpting?

Please see this page for an in-depth answer to this question.

Who is an ideal candidate for CoolSculpting?

An ideal candidate for Coolsculpting is someone who is within 20-30 pounds of their goal weight, looking to treat STUBBORN AREAS of fat. An area that no matter what diet or exercise you have will not go away, is the ideal area to treat with cool sculpting. Of course, no two people are the same, so you will have to get a consultation to learn more and be sure it’s right for you.

How does it work?

Coolsculpting works in three ways to “kill” fat.

A hand-piece is firstly chosen for the area(s) you wish to treat. This hand-piece uses vacuum to pull the fat away from the body between two cooling plates with several microchips that freeze the fat to the specific temperature needed to destroy it.

When the targeted fat is frozen solid a process called apoptosis begins in the fat cells, this programmed cell death will selectively destroy fat cells during the hour procedure. Lastly, when the hour is finished, a short vigorous massage is provided to treated areas to further kill of fat cells.

As a result, the treated fat is completely destroyed by 20-25% permanently. The results will begin to reveal at 3 weeks and continue to develop up to 6 months time.

No damage is done to the skin, organs or any other tissue. This is the ONLY treatment for destroying fat by freezing it. Coolsculpting is FDA cleared for safety and efficacy.

What to expect?

Please see this page for an in-depth answer to this question.

How long does it take?

Each area treated takes approximately one hour. Often we are able to treat more than one area at a time.

What areas can be treated? / Can all fat be treated?

There are several forms of fat on the body. The type of fat that can be treated with Coolsculpting is called subcutaneous fat. This is fat that is directly below the skin, is very soft and “jiggly” and usually unresponsive to diet and exercise.

Many people who are within 20-30 lbs of their goal weight have this type of fat on the abdomen, arms, back, inner thighs and chin area. For those with excess fat on the outer thighs, typically this fat is not as soft as fat on the abdomen/back/arm areas, however this may still be effectively treated using the Cool Smooth applicator for non-pinchable fat.

The type of fat that Coolsculpting cannot treat is visceral fat, which is around the organs in the abdomen areas, as well as “brown fat” which is typically reduced with diet and exercise.

Does CoolSculpting involve cutting, chemicals, or injection?

No. Coolsculpting is a non-invasive technology that destroys fat. By simply using cold temperate, we can destroy fat for good!

Is CoolSculpting an alternative to Liposuction?

Liposuction is a very effective method of fat reduction because the fat is physically removed from the body. It is also an invasive and non-natural procedure, which typically involves the loss of blood, requires anesthesia, surgical incisions which may result in scars, and several months of recovery time.

As an alternative to liposuction, Freezing the Fat with CoolSculpting does not have any of these drawbacks and has had zero long term adverse events in millions of cases treated, which is why patients may find that cool sculpting is the practical choice.

What happens to the fat?

Just like any other dead cell in your body, the destroyed fat tissue is processed out naturally through digestion, metabolization and the lymphatic drainage system.

Is this safe?

Yes, CoolSculpting has been performed on millions of people with zero permanent side effects reported.

Side effects that have been reported are usually mild and may include bruising, temporary numbness, and minor soreness. These side effects do not typically require medication or change in normal daily routine. In very rare cases pain pills may be required, but this is negligible compared to alternatives such as liposuction where pain pills are prescribed to all patients.

Is CoolSculpting really permanent?

Yes! Once fat cells are targeted with Coolsculpting, they are permanently killed off.

The only exception is weight gain of 30+ lbs, which may cause NEW fat cells to form.

Can I have more than one treatment?

Yes. You can expect to see 20-25% of the remaining fat to be lost with each treatment. This means that after two treatments you can expect to see a 40% reduction in fat in the treated areas. The next treatment can be started in as little as 4 weeks.

How much downtime can I expect?

Most people do not experience any downtime. The typical patient is able to resume normal routine the same day; immediately after treatment. In rare cases there may be some minimal downtime.

Will I have loose skin after I freeze my fat off with CoolSculpting?

No! Loose skin will not be a new problem after the results from Coolsculpting have developed.

How much does it cost?

It will depend on your area and your provider, but the typical range is $X-X.
